Geomax – Company | GNSS receivers | Zenith | Xpad

Geomax is part of Hexagon. Hexagon is an enormous company. One of their focusses is in positioning and land surveying. That is why they created Geomax.

Goals and values of Geomax

Hexagon wanted their part of the Asian market in land surveying equipment. That is the reason why they set up Geomax. The growth of the company went quick. It went quicker than they thought. So nowadays they have a big netwerk of over the complete world.

The company has six core values that are mentioned on their website. The first one is that they are profit driven. At least that is very honest. They want to make money. Another value is that they are professional. It is a good thing for making precise positioning devices.

Their third value is that they are innovative. They are looking for new opportunities. And when they discover them they want to develop them quickly.

Also they are engaged. They have a passion for what they are doing. Because Geomax is committed to what they want to achieve.

The fifth value is maybe a bit contradictory to the first value. It is that they are customer focused. Service for customers does not always go well with high profits. Especially not in the beginning. Later on it can go well together.

The sixth and last value of Geomax is that they are entrepreneurial. They want to do new things and they take calculated risks.

GNSS receivers of Geomax

So let’s see how their products reflect their values. Here by we stay with the GNSS receivers of Geomax, because that is their product that is most related to Apglos. Their line of GNSS receivers is called Zenith. There are different GNSS receivers in this Zenith series.

Zenith 15 GNSS receiver

First of all there is the Zenith 15 GNSS receiver.

Geomax, Zenith 15 GNSS receiver

It is a compact receiver and for Geomax’s GNSS receivers it is economical. The main thing is the specifications.

  • Dimensions: 198x198x95 mm
  • Weight: 1200 gram
  • Ingress protection: IP68
  • Positioning kinematic horizontal: 10 mm + 1 ppm
  • Positioning kinematic vertical: 20 mm + 1 ppm
  • GNSS signals tracked: GPS L1, L2, GLONASS L1, L2
  • Number of channels: 120

Zenith 16 GNSS receiver

Besides the Zenith 15 Geomax produces the Zenith 16 GNSS receiver.

Geomax, Zenith 16 GNSS receiver

It looks a lot like his brother the Zenith 15. So let’s see if we can see any differences in the specifications.

  • Dimensions: 198x198x95 mm
  • Weight: 1130 gram
  • Ingress protection: IP68
  • Positioning kinematic horizontal: 10 mm + 1 ppm
  • Positioning kinematic vertical: 20 mm + 1 ppm
  • GNSS signals tracked: GPS L1, L2, GLONASS L1, L2 (Other GNSS signals are optional)
  • Number of channels: 120

So actually based on these specifications there is hardly any difference.

Zenith 25 GNSS receiver

The Zenith 25 Pro is like the Zenith 15 GNSS receiver of Geomax.

As you can see the difference is the color of the front of the receiver. Further there are some different pro versions of this receiver.

The pro versions can receive more satellite constellations. This results in a better real time accuracy. For example the Zenith 25 Pro has the following accuracies:

  • Positioning kinematic horizontal: 8 mm + 1 ppm
  • Positioning kinematic vertical: 15 mm + 1 ppm

Which is better than the specifications of the Zenith 15.

Zenith 35 pro GNSS receiver

This GNSS receiver of Geomax has a tilt function. With a GNSS receiver with a tilt function you don’t have to hold the GPS rod straight to measure the exact coordinate. Knowing this the accuracy when you hold the GPS rod straight will always be better.

Geomax, Zenith 35 GNSS receiver

The specifications of the Zenith 35 Pro GNSS receiver are as follows.

  • Dimensions: 161x161x131 mm
  • Weight: 1170 gram
  • Ingress protection: IP68
  • Positioning kinematic horizontal: 8 mm + 1 ppm
  • Positioning kinematic vertical: 15 mm + 1 ppm
  • GNSS signals tracked: GPS L1, L2, L5, GLONASS L1, L2, Beidou B1, B2, Galileo E1, E5a, E5b, Altboc
  • Number of channels: 555

Zenith 40 GNSS receiver of Geomax

The final GNSS receiver is the Zenith 40.

Geomax, Zenith 40 GNSS receiver

It still looks like the Zenith 15 and Zenith 25 GNSS receivers. Only the front has a different color. More important are the specifications.

  • Dimensions: 198x198x95 mm
  • Weight: 1180 gram
  • Ingress protection: IP68
  • Positioning kinematic horizontal: 8 mm + 1 ppm
  • Positioning kinematic vertical: 15 mm + 1 ppm
  • GNSS signals tracked: GPS L1, L2, L5, GLONASS L1, L2, Beidou B1, B2, Galileo E1, E5a, E5b, Altboc
  • Number of channels: 555

As you can see the specifications are better than the GNSS receivers that it looks like.

Geomax surveying software

Besides on their GNSS receiver Geomax is very proud that they were one of the first to have developed a land surveying software for Android. They call it Xpad. Other companies mostly developed their software for Windows systems.

We agree that Android is the platform to be with land surveying software. That is the reason why Apglos Survey Wizard is also an Android app.

Geomax works with their users on adding functionality in Xpad. This means it gets bigger and bigger. Apglos Survey Wizard keeps the focus on what you need. You need a simple land survey app for mapping and staking out. And still our app works great with the GNSS receivers of Geomax.
